Walk through any classic car sale or vehicle display

Walk through any classic car sale or vehicle display and one thought often comes to mind:
How many of these cars could have looked very different today… if only they had been better protected?

Faded paint, cracked trim, tired interiors, moisture damage hidden under carpets — these issues don’t appear overnight. They are the result of years of exposure. Rain left to sit. Frost allowed to bite into glass and seals. Dust and dirt grinding gently into paintwork. Sun slowly bleaching colour away. None of it dramatic. All of it preventable.

What’s striking is that many of these cars weren’t abused.
They were simply left unprotected.

Poor storage doesn’t always mean neglect. Often it means parking outside without cover, leaving a vehicle exposed through changing seasons, or assuming that “it’ll be fine until next weekend”. Over time, that exposure adds up — and by the time a car reaches the market, the damage is already done.

This is where something as simple as a car cover can change everything.

A quality cover creates a barrier between your vehicle and the environment. It helps reduce moisture build-up, shields paint from UV damage, protects delicate trims and prevents dirt from settling into areas that are hard to restore later. It doesn’t stop time — but it slows its impact dramatically.

At Hanwell, we believe preservation should be part of ownership from day one. Not as an afterthought, and not only for high-value vehicles — but for any car you care about. Because once wear has set in, no amount of polishing can truly undo it.

Looking at rows of cars offered for sale, it’s hard not to wonder how many would tell a different story today if they’d simply been covered when not in use.

So tell us — when your vehicle is parked and resting, what do you do to protect it from the elements?
